I have some firearms that I no longer use, and would like to sell
legally. How do you go about that?

I know that when I buy a firearm, I have to register it. So if I wanted
to sell it how do I do it legally?

I know I could go to a gunshop and have them do it, but they would take
some of the profit or offer to buy it from me cheap and then sell it for
    a profit.

I'm sure it's not a hard process, just wondering...

    Thanks

It varries by state. When I lived in Conn. it was a process and probably 3 times as bad now.

In Georgia where I live now i can private sale without any paperwork, and have.

That would depend upon your state of residence and that of the prospective buyer. Here in the free state of Wyoming, private sales are not regulated at all. If purchasing from a FFL you need to perform paperwork and background check.

We have Facebook groups for it. No, you can't post it
'for sale' or anything, but you can post pictures, then
    people can private message you.

And in Tennessee, this is VERY very legal! And no registration
    either.

Where are you located? And what do you have? :-)

I checked online and to transfer a pistol the buyer and I would need to

Yeah, transfers within NYS are miserable. Not sure what needs to be done for out of state. I know it'd have to go to an FFL out here, I'd have to fill out the 4473 and then I'm out the door as I have a CCP and don't have to wait for a background check. For departure from the state I'm guessing it'd involve you taking the arm to an FFL, filling out what paperwork they have and then providing them with the FFL info at this end.

Either way, a bit of a pain in the neck. Hope you have good luck finding a home for it!

I'm in Tennessee. I can sell to someone else, or buy from someone
else, with no FFL involved. The only encumbrance is if I KNOW
they are not allowed to legally own it (minor, felon, etc.).

For out of state, a handgun has to go to an FFL for them to pick
up, and the same if I buy one from out of state. Not sure about
    a long gun...

As for in state from a dealer, we have TICS - Tennessee Instant
Check System. For a $10 fee, you fill out a form 4473 (I think
it is - don't quote me) and the dealer either calls it into
Nashville or they submit it electronically. You USUALLY get
a response in MINUTES, then you make the purchase and carry
    it home with you!

That's a good suggestion. I normally don't go to the range, I live in a

Here in Wyoming it's somewhat similar. I have a Wyoming concealed carry permit (which isn't required for concealed carry in the state, but it DOES provide reciprocal privileges with other states). With the WY CCP if I purchase a firearm (long gun or hand gun) from a FFL in state I fill out the 4473 and I'm out the door. Don't need to wait for the NICS check to be called in. Makes things VERY convenient!
